Social policy is about how societies around the world meet human needs for security, education, jobs, health and well-being. Social policy addresses how countries and societies respond to global challenges of social, demographic and economic change, as well as poverty, migration and globalization.
Social policy aims to identify and find ways to reduce disparities in access to services and support among social groups defined by socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, migration status, gender, sexual orientation, disability and age. An efficient social policy helps individuals live without anxieties and adapt to new opportunities of economic growth.
Social support in Kosovo is mainly oriented towards monthly monetary assistance for poor families, persons with disabilities, including children, pensioners who enjoy the right to pension under the law in force and for categories of War Invalids and families of martyrs. In the current circumstances of Kosovo, the categories most in need are those of people with disabilities, families with no employees, unemployed people with low skills for work and low education, pensioners, War Invalids, civilian victims and families of martyrs, etc.
The government of the Republic of Kosovo has designed and drafted programs of financial support and professional services, which directly affect the freezing of welfare, poverty reduction and social inclusion of vulnerable groups.
Support to social and vulnerable categories is realized by social and pension schemes, through which direct support is provided to the family or individual, which are financed from the Kosovo budget. In addition to providing financial support from social and pension schemes, a very important component of support for the individual and the family as part of social policies is the provision of social and Family Services, implemented through public and non-governmental providers of social services. From the support provided by social schemes, pension and professional services benefit or receive services over 30% of the population of the Republic of Kosovo.
