According to the law, there are limits on how much an employee can work during the week.
Full-time work hours are forty (40) hours per week, unless otherwise provided by law.
Full-time work hours for an employee who is younger than eighteen (18) years of age may not exceed thirty (30) hours per week.
Working hours between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. are counted as night work; if work is organized in shifts, it is necessary to ensure that shifts are such that the employee does not work at night without interruption for more than one (1) working week.
In cases where, despite the application of protective measures, the worker cannot be protected from harmful effects on his health, reduced working hours are applied, which can be reduced to a maximum of twenty (20) hours per week, for jobs with a high degree of risk.
If working longer than the working hours (overtime work) then according to the law, a maximum of eight (8) hours per week is allowed. This does not apply to employees younger than eighteen (18) years of age, as well as to employees during pregnancy, and single parents with children younger than three (3) years of age, or with disabled children; the employer cannot extend the working hours.
